This NIOSH-approved program will provide instruction in spirometry through lectures, workshops, and testing. This workshop covers American Thoracic Society standards for pulmonary function testing, recent developments in spirometry testing, and the current NIOSH standards. Individuals who will find this program valuable include: occupational health nurses, physicians, industrial hygienists, technicians and Medical Assistants, and others responsible for performing accurate pulmonary function testing. All participants will have ample opportunity to practice pulmonary function testing utilizing a variety of spirometry equipment with one-on-one instruction from the faculty.
The registration fee of $450.00 includes refreshment breaks, lunches and all course materials, including the NIOSH Spirometry Manual.
Program Objectives
As a result of attending this course, you should be able to:
- Use standardized methods to obtain acceptable/reproducible spirograms.
- Correctly perform calculations for basic spirometric parameters.
- Implement appropriate quality assurance procedures for spirometric equipment.
- Recognize the applications, strengths, and limitations of spirometry in the occupational health setting.
Accreditation
Midwest Center for Occupational Health and Safety - Continuing Education Units (CEUs): 1.5 CEUs
Nurses - This activity has been designed to meet the Minnesota Board of Nursing continuing education requirements for 19.2 (50 Minute) contact hours.
Safety Professionals - This course is designed to meet the criteria for Continuance of Certification (COC) as specified by the Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP).
